At Choro, we are dedicated to helping older adults age in place comfortably, providing relief to family caregivers, and fostering community connection. Our goal is to find affordable solutions, allowing seniors to live independently in their homes for as long as possible. Our mission is to change what an empowered retirement should look like for all of us.
As life slows down, Choro helpers are here to help with the daily chores that have become unmanageable and bring community connectivity to your home. Light cleaning, packing, decluttering, help with technology, neighbourhood walks, and quick drives to outings – that’s our specialty. We aim to empower our Choros (elders) with autonomy with affordable choices by letting them age in place comfortably and building a local support network. Select who you want, when you want, for help where you need it most.
Hi, I’m Karen, the Founder behind Choro. I grew up in a vibrant multigenerational neighbourhood where seniors played an important role. They were our piano teachers, baking connoisseurs, flower bed managers, and the harshest critics of new boyfriends. Through helping each other, we cultivated a rich collective spirit.
Today, my aging parents still live in my childhood home but struggle to manage all of the daily tasks and errands necessary to keep the household running. Meanwhile, I have a full-time job, kids, and a busy life. Although my family is important to me, I continually find myself struggling to balance and handle all of their growing needs. I knew there had to be a solution to keep both my parents and myself safe, happy, and well cared for.
Now, with Choro, we have the blossoming of that solution: a growing network of amazing helpers making a huge difference by assisting some of our most at-risk seniors. Our helpers do the heavy lifting, take seniors for walks they wouldn’t otherwise have gone on, drive them wherever they want to go, and provide them with the autonomy to live their best lives: Seniors are our Choros, and they deserve it. By helping older adults with everyday tasks and chores, our helpers build amazing intergenerational friendships, share heartfelt stories, and help keep family members just family members instead of overworked informal caregivers.
For us, Choro is more than just a name or brand - it means community. Chōrō, or “elder” in Japanese, brings to life our solution for affordable care and support for our elders and loved ones - not to mention, it sounds a whole lot like the word “chore,” which is exactly what we’re here to help with. It’s sweet, simple, and memorable, just like the services we provide for you and your community.
Thanks for stopping by! We look forward to welcoming you to our community. Call us at (604) 774-3708 or email us at support@choro.ca to learn more - we’d love to hear from you.
